Other worries

To the editor:

Dorothy Martin’s fond memories of the fair (Public Forum, Aug. 9) are wonderful but, from the flip side of things, not everyone is involved in 4-H but just enjoys the fun and carefree adolescence that the fair brings once a year.

None of the children pictured are mine, but they could have been. I personally know one of the children in the photo and know his parents quite well, and I can assure you that this young man would make any parent proud. Would it surprise you to know he is an honor student? Perhaps the behavior in the photo was not to your liking and perhaps you don’t relate or understand enjoying the local fair if you were so busy preparing, planning and showing your exhibit. But from my perspective, this young man has displayed much more respect for others than you have.

It is quite presumptuous of you to assume that any of these teenagers or any other teenagers living in Lawrence will be contacting the local SRS office for anything based on a photo printed in the Journal-World. If you need a bandwagon to get on, let’s work on the priests that love to fondle our children, or the Christians that don’t act very Christian-like, or better yet, our corrupt government officials. Let me guess; are you from the same generation as Gov. Brownback? We should all be worried for the future — of Kansas.
