Gov. Brownback plans 5 events to name notable Kansans

? Presumably, the list of the top 25 notable figures in Kansas history includes President Dwight Eisenhower, famed aviator Amelia Earhart and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole.

But Gov. Sam Brownback is planning five events across the state from next week into September to announce the selections of an 11-member commission, five names at a time.

The commission’s work is part of the state’s ongoing celebration of its 150th anniversary.

The first five notables will be announced Aug. 18 at the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka.

Other announcements are Aug. 25 at the Shawnee Indian Mission State Historic Site in Fairway; Aug. 31 at the Fort Scott National Historic Site; Sept. 7 at the Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita; and Sept. 15 at the State Fair in Hutchinson.
