The Lawrence Sign Code Board of Appeals approved a variance Thursday night to permit completion of a new illuminated scoreboard enclosure at the Lawrence High School football stadium.

The six-member board unanimously agreed to grant an exception to city rules that would have required installation of smaller signs than those in the project plans.

The decision clears the way for the back of the scoreboard to be finished as planned: a Chesty Lion logo with the words “Lawrence High School” across the top. The logo and name will be illuminated.
