Jefferson County Sheriff’s officers arrested a 32-year-old rural Oskaloosa man in Winchester who was wanted in connection with a domestic battery Wednesday morning, Sheriff Jeff Herrig said.

The arrest came after an overnight search spanned several hours. Herrig said the man fled from officers who were called to a residence northwest of Oskaloosa at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a domestic battery. A woman suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.

But the suspect ran through a wooded area. Officers called off their search about 2 a.m. and resumed it later Wednesday morning. Herrig said the man showed up at the hospital in Winchester 11 miles north of Oskaloosa, and officers later arrested the man in the Winchester area.

He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on 13 charges including domestic battery, obstruction, violation of a protective order and several traffic-related offenses.

A Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter also assisted in the search at one point, Herrig said. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
