40 years ago: City commission considers two ordinances, 20 planning items

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 3, 1971:

A lengthy and important agenda was awaiting the Lawrence City Commission at their upcoming meeting. The commission was to consider 20 items from the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission as well as two significant ordinances. The first ordinance required tie-downs for all mobile homes in the city, while the second regulated truck traffic within the city limits. The planning commission had recently produced several items for the city commissioners, including site plans for two shopping centers at 15th and Kasold Drive. In addition, the city board was holding a public hearing on the proposed 1972 city budget.
