Olathe ? State officials say the new Olathe campus of Kansas State University is the latest piece of investment in research and innovation in northeast Kansas.

Gov. Sam Brownback joined Kansas State officials and state Commerce Secretary Pat George during Tuesday’s ribbon-cutting in the Johnson County community.

The 108,000-square-foot International Animal Health and Food Safety Institute was built at a cost of $28 million.

Master’s and doctoral candidates will further their education and conduct animal health research at the institute, working along with scientists.

The institute is part of the state’s Education and Research Triangle initiative, a cooperative effort with the University of Kansas that involves KU’s Edwards Campus and the KU Medical Center.
