Topeka ? Developers still aren’t interested in building a state-owned casino in southeast Kansas.

Lottery officials have extended their deadline for accepting applications to July 21 because they’ve received no proposals. The previous deadline was Thursday.

A developer would build and manage the casino, but the Kansas Lottery would own the rights to the new gambling and the gambling equipment. A 2007 law authorized a state-owned casino in either Crawford or Cherokee county.

But the same law requires a developer to invest $225 million in the project, a figure now seen by some state officials as too high.

Also, there’s a casino nearby. The Quapaw Tribe opened it in 2008 just across the border in northeast Oklahoma.
