Lawrence woman injured in accident on Kansas Turnpike after pickup hydroplaned

A Lawrence woman was taken to a Topeka hospital Friday morning after a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 west of Lawrence.

According to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report, 55-year-old Patricia A. Spone was injured after the 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck she was riding in hydroplaned on the wet highway and struck a road embankment.

The crash occurred about 6 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the turnpike about three miles east of the exit to enter I-70 to go through Topeka.

The driver of the pickup, Levi L. Spone Jr., 54, of Lawrence, was not injured. Both people wore their seat belts.

A spokeswoman at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Care in Topeka said Patricia Spone was treated and later released.
