Looking ahead

To the editor:

When the final sentencing of those involved in the Kansas University ticket scandal comes next month, the university and its athletics department will be able to focus on far more productive issues within the university community and with thousands of generous donors to the Williams Educational Fund. As more than a casual observer of events over the past few years, I can state unequivocally that the department is in excellent hands with Sheahon Zenger. He is not only a KU graduate, but also a Kansan who has confessed to now “having his dream job.” And, regarding the staff members who remain, Zenger has inherited people of high quality and excellent experience at KU and elsewhere.

What transpired in the recent past was painful for the KU family. Much credit should be given to the interim athletics director, Sean Lester, for holding it all together and to Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and KU alumnus Ray Evans for their efforts to hire someone with the character and skills of Zenger. If you have met him, you know what I mean. If you have not, you will like what you hear and see.

Rock Chalk!
