Kansas sex offender sentenced to life without parole

April 18, 2011

— A Kansas career criminal whose long record includes four sex crimes is going to prison for life with no chance for parole.

Fifty-seven-year-old Andrew C. Greene Jr., who represented himself at the sentencing last week, says he'll appeal.

The Olathe man's record includes two convictions in Johnson County for sexual abuse of a child, plus a Missouri conviction for first-degree sexual assault. And in January, a Johnson County jury convicted him of rape for having sex with a mentally disabled woman who was incapable of giving consent.

Judge John Bennett gave Greene the life sentence Friday. The Kansas City Star reports it's the first time someone has been sentenced in Johnson County under a 2006 law mandating life without parole for habitual sex offenders.
