Suspect pleads not guilty to 5 child sex charges; trial set for August

A 31-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to five child sex crime charges and will face an Aug. 1 trial in the Douglas County case.

Prosecutors accuse the man, who had a Garden City address at the time of his arrest, of sexually abusing one girl and attempting to abuse her younger sister when the girls lived in Lawrence form 2007 to 2009. During a recent preliminary hearing prosecutors said the defendant is the ex-boyfriend of the girls’ mother and had lived with the family in Lawrence.

The girls alleged the abuse occurred while their mother as at work.

Last week District Judge Michael Malone ordered the man to face a trial on three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, one count of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
