40 years ago: KU computer center receives bomb threat

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 11, 1971:

  • Summerfield Hall at Kansas University had been evacuated on a recent night after an anonymous caller said that bomb had been planted in the building and would explode in 15 minutes. Summerfield Hall, home to the university’s Computation Center, had been ripped by a bomb blast on Dec. 11 in an incident that injured three people. After the recent immediate evacuation, the building’s occupants had been readmitted after a search revealed no trace of a bomb.
  • Heralds of spring were arriving in local gardens. The first tulips were blooming today in the flower bed in front of KU’s Hoch Auditorium. Other Mount Oread flowers were beginning to put in an appearance, such as the tulips around the Chi Omega fountain, which was scheduled to be turned on within the week.
