Recipients of the K-State Alumni Association’s first-ever Legacy Scholarships were recognized during a half-time presentation on Sept. 4 at the K-State football game. The $1,000 scholarships were awarded to 75 children and grandchildren of Kansas State University alumni for the 2010-11 academic year. The scholarships are made possible through funds generated by the K-State alumni association’s license plate program.

Area recipients are Audra Walker, Lawrence; Ashley Lesser, Lecompton; Abby Guenther, Ottawa; and Cassandra Pryor, Overbrook.

The 44th annual Bahnmaier Reunion was held Sept. 12 at Territorial Capital Museum in Lecompton. The oldest direct descendant was Kathleen Bahnmaier Schneider, 93, and the youngest was Pressley Bahnmaier, 5 weeks. Those attending were Joe and Neita Bahnmaier; Beverly Van Dyke; Louann, Chloe, Colbe and Claire Austin; Marge Schmitt; Cary and Carol Cooper; Duane and Dorothy Wulfkuhle; Mark and Hazel Bahnmaier; Melvin and VeNora Dark; Tyler Dark; Annette Payne; Leah and Ed Shaw; Darlene Paslay; Elsie Middleton; Carl and Mary K. Dr. Anne VanGarsse and Jason VanGarsse, Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Caroline Mae VanGarsse, born Sept. 15, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Caroline has two sisters, Catherine, 7, and Julia, 2.

A family reunion of the descendants of George Lee and Kathryn Nichols Housworth is planned for Oct. 2 at the Brookwood Mobile Home Park Club House, 1908 E. 19th St., Lawrence. A covered dish luncheon will be served at 1 p.m. 

Jerry Goforth of Lawrence was presented the Kansas Golf Association’s Virgil Parker Award on July 19 by Jerry Waugh. The award is given to KGA volunteers who served the association and its golfers faithfully and professionally for many years with great skill, devotion and selflessness. Goforth is the fifth recipient in the last 15 years.

More than 1,000 students were awarded degrees from Kansas University after the 2010 summer session.

Kristin Kruse, Lawrence, earned an obstetrics & gynecology certificate; Brett Meggison, Tecumseh, earned a radiology, diagnostic certificate; and James Dunn, Lawrence, earned a Specialist in Education degree.

Ryann Pem, recruiter for the city of Lawrence, was honored Sept. 14 by the Jayhawk Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management and given the 2010 Human Resources Professional/Community Volunteer of the Year Award. She was also a recipient of an HR Heroes Award at the 2006 SHRM State Conference. Pem is the 2010 Jayhawk SHRM chapter president. She has held numerous other positions on the board of the Jayhawk chapter of SHRM over the years, and currently serves on the SHRM state council as well.
