Topeka ? Kansas Democrats gained some ground over the past month, according to the latest SurveyUSA poll.

In the governor’s race, Republican Sam Brownback leads Democrat Tom Holland, 59 percent to 32 percent with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

Holland, a state senator from Baldwin City, made up 7 percentage points since August and Brownback, a U.S. senator, lost 8 points. Among voters who identify themselves as moderates, Holland had trailed by 10, but now leads by 9, a 19-point swing.

In the secretary of state’s race, Republican Kris Kobach leads Democratic incumbent Chris Biggs, 53 percent to 36 percent. Last month, Kobach had a 32-point edge.

In the attorney general’s race, Republican Derek Schmidt leads Democratic incumbent Steve Six, 50 percent to 41 percent. Schmidt’s lead was more than double that last month.

And in the state treasurer’s race, Republican Ron Estes is ahead of Democratic incumbent Dennis McKinney, 58 percent to 37 percent. In August, Estes was up 61 percent to 32 percent.

Like Holland, McKinney, Six and Biggs are each supported by a majority of voters who identify themselves as a moderates.

In the U.S. Senate race, Republican Jerry Moran leads Democrat Lisa Johnston, 66 percent to 24 percent. It was 69 percent to 23 percent in August.

SurveyUSA interviewed 1,000 Kansans last week and determined that 602 would likely vote in the Nov. 2 election. The poll was done for KWCH-TV in Wichita.
