KU student arrested after threatening others with knife

A 21-year-old KU student was arrested early Thursday morning after threatening people with a knife.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Damon Thomas, the incident occurred just after 2 a.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of Ohio Street.

Thomas said the suspect and some other KU students had been drinking and were hanging out in an apartment. An argument ensued and the suspect, a neighbor of the victims, was asked to leave. The suspect went back to his apartment and later returned to the neighboring apartment with a knife. The suspect proceeded to threaten the residents.

A scuffle broke out and the suspect eventually returned to his apartment after being battered. Thomas said the battery by the victims occurred in self defense, so they were not charged.

The suspect was booked into the Douglas County Jail about 4 a.m. Thursday on three charges of aggravated burglary and one charge of aggravated assault. He was also booked on several drug charges from an unrelated warrant.
