Bucs’ Talib may have violated suspension

? The NFL is looking into whether Tampa Bay cornerback Aqib Talib violated a one-game suspension by attending the Buccaneers’ season opener against Cleveland as a spectator.

Talib sat out last Sunday’s 17-14 victory while suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The third-year pro also was fined one additional game check stemming from an altercation with a cab driver in August 2009.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an email to The Associated Press that the league has “made no determination at this point” whether Talib might face additional discipline.

Talib watched the game from a private suite. League rules prohibit suspended players from attending their team’s games, even if they sit in the stands and avoid contact with teammates and coaches.

The Buccaneers had no comment.

Falcons to honor TE Gonzalez

Flowery Branch, Ga. — Atlanta was on the road when Tony Gonzalez became just the seventh NFL player to catch 1,000 passes, so the Falcons will honor him at the home opener.

The team has declared Sunday as “Tony Gonzalez Day” at the Georgia Dome. Owner Arthur Blank, team president Rick McKay and general manager Thomas Dimitroff will take part in a brief ceremony before the game against the Arizona Cardinals.

There also will be a video montage commemorating the historic catch and Gonzalez’s brilliant 14-year career.

In addition, fans are encouraged to wear their No. 88 jerseys. For those who don’t have one, the Falcons are knocking off the price of Gonzalez attire by 50 percent, both on merchandise sold at the stadium and through their website.

Panthers QB Moore practices

Charlotte, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Moore will likely start Sunday against Tampa Bay after practicing for a second straight day following a concussion.

Jackson can play sooner if traded

San Diego — San Diego Chargers holdout wide receiver Vincent Jackson can play in Week 5 if he’s traded by next Wednesday, the NFL and the players union decided Thursday.

The agreement essentially rolls what could have been a six-game suspension into four games. Jackson currently is serving a three-game NFL suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He pleaded guilty in February to his second DUI since 2006.

On Aug. 20, the Chargers placed him on the roster exempt list, meaning he’d be suspended for three games once he signed with San Diego. Jackson’s representatives felt he shouldn’t have to serve that suspension if he was traded.

Hamstring limits CB Revis

Florham Park, N.J. — New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis was limited in practice Thursday with tightness in his left hamstring, but fully expects to play Sunday in New York’s game against the New England Patriots.

“It’s just a tightness,” Revis said. “It’s not anything that serious to where I will not be playing on Sunday.”

The NCAA waived its rule requiring transfers to sit out a season for Anderson. The rule would have exhausted the five-year window Anderson has to play four years.

The new criminal complaint filed Thursday added two felony coercion and one felony robbery charge along with one misdemeanor domestic battery and three misdemeanor harassment charges.
