Topeka ? Expressing regret over the decision, the Kansas Board of Regents on Thursday froze salaries for the chief executive officers at the regents universities for the second straight year.

Board members said because of the weak economy and tight state budget they couldn’t give raises.

Regent Dan Lykins of Topeka said, “They’re not asking for any kind of raise this year. I sure hope the economy changes so that we can look at it again. It’s not fair.”

Regents set the state-funded salaries of the CEOs and the compensation cap of private dollars used to supplement the total salary.

According to regents staff, the salaries for the leaders at the six regents universities are as follows:

• Kansas University Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, $267,177 and a cap of $425,000;

• Kansas State University President Kirk Schulz, $255,298 and a cap of $350,000;

• Wichita State University President Don Beggs, $255,298 and a cap of $277,160;

• Fort Hays State University President Ed Hammond, $202,593 and a cap of $223,860;

• Pittsburg State University President Steven Scott, $202,593 and a cap of $213,200

• Emporia State University President Michael Lane, $202,540 and a cap of $213,200;
