Several Lawrence residents reported hearing a small explosion about 10:15 Saturday night in the area of 15th and Kasold.

A short time later, reports began to surface of power spikes, and even a fire alarm going off for no discernible reason.

According to Douglas County emergency dispatchers, a fire alarm sounded at Jayhawker Towers, but when police arrived, they could fine no fire or smoke.

Brief power outages were reported at Meadowbrook apartments and near 15th and Inverness streets.

Westar is not currently reporting any power outages from the incident and a spokesman for the utility said he couldn’t say for sure whether a transformer had caused the explosion or any power spikes.
