Thanks due

To the editor:

To the Lawrence resident(s) who took our dog to the Lawrence Humane Society: Thank You! After a few nervous hours of shopping on Sunday afternoon, we came home and were devastated to find our much-loved pup, Florence of Lawrence, missing.

Florence is actually no pup. She’s around 7 years old, an adoptee from the shelter, and sadly a sufferer of severe separation anxiety. We are trying so hard to do right by her. We love her so much and are working hard to find the right combination that will make her feel secure and “queen of her castle” — including doggie day care. But Sunday we slipped.

After taking her out walking twice in hopes of tiring her out enough for us to slip out to the store, we failed to close the windows. It never crossed our minds that she would jump out, but she did. When we got home and found her missing, I went instantly to the Lawrence Humane Society and, sure enough, there she was.

Thank you to the person(s) who retrieved her and took her there. I made a beeline there hoping that that’s what happened. She didn’t have a collar (I’ve been convinced that micro-chipping is a good idea for us). I have no way of knowing if you judged her owners are irresponsible, but I can assure you we’re trying so hard to make her life a happy and secure one. Regardless of your feelings, you protected our pup and we are so thankful. Lawrence rocks, and the Lawrence Humane Society rocks like crazy.
