Report of abduction stems from confusion

? Police in Salina say a report of an attempted playground kidnapping apparently resulted from a misunderstanding.

A boy told police that a stranger tried to grab him Thursday afternoon from the playground at St. Mary’s Grade School. The boy said he broke free when the man grabbed him by the neck.

But on Friday, police said they determined the adult had been driving by and stopped to break up what he thought was a fight.

The Salina Journal reported the man gave that account when he spoke with police investigators Friday.

Police Lt. Mike Sweeney said officers reviewed the information with the county attorney, and no criminal charges will be filed.
