Streets reopen on KU’s West Campus after gas line break near new pharmacy building

Black Hills Energy crews work to repair a gas line break Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 in the parking lot behind the School of Pharmacy building on Kansas University's West Campus.

A natural gas line break near Kansas University’s new School of Pharmacy building blocked traffic on West Campus Friday morning.

At 9:38 a.m., Black Hills Energy received a call about a break in a one-inch gas line that services the pharmacy building. Construction crews had run over the line with equipment.

KU closed down streets around the pharmacy building, but the building was not evacuated, KU spokeswoman Jill Jess said.

About an hour later, Black Hills Energy shut off the gas and the streets reopened. Black Hills continued to make repairs to the line.
