Three Kansas University alumnae have been named to Forbes magazine’s list of the 25 most powerful women in the world.

Cynthia Carroll, chief executive officer of the mining company Anglo American, ranked 14th; Sheila Bair, chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., ranked 15th; and Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and former Kansas governor, ranked 23rd.

KU joined Princeton, Harvard and Yale as the only universities to each have three graduates among the top 25.

Carroll earned a master’s degree in geology at KU in 1982. Bair earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1975 and a law degree in 1978 from KU, and Sebelius received a KU master’s degree in public administration in 1980.
