Kansas names deputy education commissioner

? A former Kansas school superintendent has been named the new deputy commissioner of education for learning services.

Brad Neuenswander assumes the position immediately. The appointment was made by state Education Commissioner Diane DeBacker. He takes the post vacated by DeBacker, who was named commissioner earlier this year by the Kansas State Board of Education.

Neuenswander had been the state’s director of school finance. Previously he was superintendent in Cheney and Ellis school districts.

As head of learning services, he will oversee departments for teacher licensure, academic standards and assessments and special education.
