Prosecutors seek more information in alleged rape at Haskell dorm before deciding whether to file charges

A 25-year-old Haskell Indian Nations University student has been released from jail after he was initially arrested as a suspect in an alleged sexual assault last weekend.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said Tuesday morning that his office was waiting on more information before making a decision about whether to file charges. He said he could not comment further.

Lawrence police were called about 7:15 a.m. Saturday to Roe Cloud Hall, where a 21-year-old female student alleged the 25-year-old male student had sexually assaulted her earlier.

Police arrested the man Saturday afternoon on charges of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, criminal restraint and theft.

According to Douglas County Jail records, the suspect was released Monday afternoon.

The Journal-World generally does not name sexual assault suspects unless they are convicted.
