Source: Brett Favre meets with NFL over texting flap

? Brett Favre spoke with an NFL security official Tuesday about text messages and lewd photos he allegedly sent to a New York Jets employee two years ago when he played for the team, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The person spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because details of the meeting between Favre and NFL vice president for security Milt Ahlerich were not made public.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said previously the Vikings quarterback would meet this week with a league official about the messages and graphic photos he allegedly sent to Jenn Sterger, now a TV personality with the Versus network.

Union: NFL will stop health care in March

St. Paul, Minn. — The NFL has told the players’ union that it will stop providing health care for players and their families in March if the two sides do not reach a new collective-bargaining agreement.

During an appearance with Minnesota Vikings fans on Tuesday, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said he was working to figure out a plan to ensure medical coverage for players and their families should they be locked out.

Smith said he is dealing “with players where some of them have children who need heart transplants. We have several players who have children who are on kidney dialysis. We will have over 100 players who will have children who are born in the March, April, May timeframe. Right now all of those players need health insurance.”

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said it’s one more reason to reach an agreement.

Chiefs trade Magee

Tampa, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have acquired defensive end Alex Magee from the Kansas City Chiefs in hopes of improving the NFL’s least productive pass rush. The Bucs are last in the league with four sacks through five games. Magee was obtained Tuesday in exchange for an undisclosed pick in the 2011 draft. The Bucs also will receive an undisclosed pick in the deal.

Jags re-sign Bouman

Jacksonville, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars could have two quarterbacks off the street suiting up for them at Kansas City on Sunday. With starter David Garrard and backup Trent Edwards both injured, the Jaguars re-signed veteran Todd Bouman on Tuesday. To make room on the roster, the team released safety Gerald Alexander.

Titans QB day-to-day

Nashville, Tenn. — Vince Young is day-to-day after tests show only a mild sprained left knee and ankle, and coach Jeff Fisher says the Tennessee quarterback could play against Philadelphia on Sunday even if he misses a couple practices.

Texans cut T, LB

Houston — The Houston Texans have released tackle Ephraim Salaam and waived linebacker David Nixon.

The 6-foot-7, 310-pound Salaam signed with the Texans on Sept. 22, the day left tackle Duane Brown was suspended for violating the NFL’s drug policy. Duane Brown worked out with his team Tuesday after serving his four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on banned substances

The 6-3, 225-pound Nixon played in the second half of Sunday’s game against Kansas City after All-Pro middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans ruptured his left Achilles’ tendon.

Broncos promote LB

Englewood, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have promoted linebacker Diyral Briggs from their practice squad and placed wide receiver Matthew Willis on injured reserve with a broken foot. The Broncos also signed receiver Eron Riley to their practice squad.

Colts claim RB Brown

Indianapolis — The Colts have claimed running back Andre Brown off waivers from Denver and have released kick returner Kenny Moore.

Browns lose DE Smith

Berea, Ohio — A person familiar with the situation says Browns defensive end Robaire Smith is done for the season. The person says Smith will be placed on injured reserve today due to a back injury.

Steelers’ DE Keisel out

Pittsburgh — Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel will sit out Sunday’s game at Miami due to a left hamstring injury.
