Topeka ? Free State High’s doubles tennis team of junior Caitlyn Tilden and freshman Libby Hillis went 2-1 on the first day of the Class 6A state tournament on Friday at Kossover Tennis Center.

The Firebirds have two doubles teams competing at state this year.

Senior Kelly Phipps and freshman Alexis Czapinski went 1-1 on Friday.

Both teams are guaranteed a top-12 finish at state and could take as high as fifth. Both FSHS teams will continue play at state today.

Lawrence High’s duo of Taylor Eubanks and Morgan Manger went 1-1 Friday.
