Layoff notices given at Cessna Aircraft

? Cessna Aircraft has given out layoff notices from its announcement last month that it’s cutting about 700 jobs.

KAKE TV reports that layoff notices were issued Friday. Cessna Chief Executive Jack Pelton told employees in September that production rates would have to be cut because of a lack of airplane orders.

Cessna also said then that the 700 layoffs would be across the board.

The latest round of layoffs came on top of the 8,000 jobs Cessna has shed since late 2008 as it cut its work force by half. Most of the layoffs have been at the firm’s Wichita facilities, where 6,200 people now work compared to 12,400 in late 2008.
