Chapman woman pleads guilty to killing newborn boy

? An east-central Kansas woman pleaded guilty in the death of her newborn son, whose body was found buried in a ravine.

Twenty-one-year-old Ashley Nicole Edington of Herington pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in the March death of the baby.

Dickinson County Attorney Keith Hoffman says Edington did not tell anyone she was pregnant while she lived in Chapman and worked at a restaurant in Junction City.

Two young girls found the boy’s body March 13 in a ravine in Junction City. Hoffman says the boy was born at an apartment in Chapman. The cause of death was not revealed.

The Salina Journal reports that Edington will be sentenced Dec. 1. She faces 8 1/2 years in prison.
