Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy arrests suspect in aggravated battery south of Lawrence

A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy Thursday afternoon arrested a Lawrence man who was a suspect in a late-September aggravated battery committed south of Lawrence.

Prosecutors on Friday charged 22-year-old Courtney T. Ogden with two counts of aggravated battery.

Sgt. Steve Lewis, a sheriff’s spokesman, said the suspect was accused of injuring a 33-year-old Lawrence woman during a 3 a.m. altercation Sept. 25 in the 1600 block of North 1250 Road, which is southeast of 31st Street and Haskell Avenue. Lewis said the gravel road is a popular spot for groups to drink alcohol.

The woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later released. Ogden is not suspected of using any kind of weapon or object in the battery, Lewis said.

After the investigation, the deputy found Ogden and arrested him at noon Thursday in an apartment in the 1300 block of West 26th Street.
