Brownback record

To the editor:

Kansas newspapers did an excellent service preceding several of the more recent elections for the State Board of Education, by searching out and reporting the real, mostly unstated beliefs and goals and intentions of all candidates for board positions. As a result, Kansans were finally able to determine which candidates would change the state academic standards into superstition and belief-based ideology, rather than science- and fact-based curriculum that most Kansans want for their children.

Sam Brownback supported every one of the far-right board candidates, several of whom were elected before media investigators informed the public of what was happening.

Tom Holland is trying to force his opponent to state clearly what Brownback will do, if elected governor, in the area of public education. Brownback will not be publicly vetted in this area, because he knows that most Kansans are not that radical.

There is a long Senate voting record and record of Brownback’s Senate committee activities, tapes and print records of his speeches and comments in previous campaigns, and of his very strong involvement with the secretive religious organization known as The Family. These records could and would provide ample documentation to outline very clearly where he stands on educational standards, funding, and regulations.

Only the press and the electronic media can let us know the pitfalls of having Sam Brownback as our governor. Is this election less important than who serves on the State Board of Education?
