Voters have until Oct. 18 to make themselves eligible to participate in the Nov. 2 general election.

Keith Campbell, the Douglas County elections deputy, said the clerk’s office at 1100 Mass. will be open until 7 p.m. that day to handle last-minute registrations.

Until then, the office will open during the week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Campbell said it’s important to register each time voters change their name, address or party affiliation. Voters can check their registration or find information about how to register to vote at douglascountyelections.com. The clerk’s office also has information posted at www.Facebook.com/douglascountyelections.

As of last Tuesday afternoon, Douglas County had 79,362 registered voters — 27,700 Democrats, 23,145 Republicans, 27,755 unaffiliated voters, 690 Libertarians and 72 Reform Party voters.

Advance voting begins Oct. 13. It can be done in person at the clerk’s office, or voters can request a ballot. Campbell said on Tuesday that the office so far had requests to send out 1,100 advance ballots.
