• The 2010 Kansas Housing Conference presented this year’s Ad Astra Award for Innovation in Housing and Community Development to Tenants to Homeowners Inc. of Lawrence. The award, accepted by executive director of Tenants to Homeowners Rebecca Buford, honors the organization for construction of what’s been called the “Greenest Affordable Home in Kansas.” The home, at 1245 N.J. in Lawrence, is a dome house that combines energy efficiency with affordability.

• The Oriental Bistro and Grill, 1511 W. 23rd St., opened Sept. 17. The restaurant is owned by a group of employee investors, including Richard Tang, owner of Jade Garden and Oriental Express, both in Topeka; and chefs Johnny Lee and Sam Ling. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned later.

• The Stock Market Game, instructed by Dennis Mattern, is a computer-assisted classroom simulation of Wall Street trading that involves participants in the investment of $100,000 in imaginary money over nine weeks. Games are free and will be played from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 5 through Nov. 30, at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vt.

• Barb Long has joined JCPenney’s Salon, 3311 Iowa. Long, from Topeka, holds state licenses in Kansas and Florida.

• The National Association of Government Webmasters announced its Pinnacle Web Award winners Sept. 23 at the NAGW Annual Conference in St. Louis. The city of Lawrence won the Pinnacle Award in the Medium Population category (35,000 to 100,000). eGov Coordinator Eric Gruber received the award.
