25 years ago: Two potential Turnpike exchange sites studied

Local officials had received a study of two potential sites for a Kansas Turnpike interchange, but the report said that neither location had the revenue potential to pay off construction costs. The report did say that both sites would attract about the same amount of traffic and revenue. The first of several public hearings on the issue was scheduled for November, and county residents were strongly urged to attend and share their views.

An unusually rainy construction season had delayed the completion of the new terminal at the Lawrence airport, but the 4,500-square-foot building was now expected to be completed by the end of October.
