Bake sale, food drive to assist area pantries
Community volunteers are having a bake sale and food drive today to benefit Douglas County food pantries.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Checkers Foods, 2300 La.
The food and bake sale proceeds will go to the Just Food warehouse, 1200 E. 11th St., which supplies food to low-income residents and other Lawrence pantries. It is designated as the Harvesters Community Food Network’s redistribution organization for Douglas County.
Each month it serves between 1,600 and 2,000 people and distributes more than 10 tons of food.
