Rossville High School stages one-act play commissioned by Kansas Department of Health and Environment

? The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has produced its first play.

As part of its efforts to reduce trash, the agency earlier this year commissioned a one-act play that schools across the state could use to educate students. It awarded the commission to Penelope Weiner, a Lawrence playwright who teaches theater at Washburn University.

Her play, “Bring It Up!, The Assembly That Changed the World,” had its world premiere Tuesday at Rossville High School.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the one-act play is meant to be staged as if it was an Earth Day assembly at a school, with a speaker trying to talk to some stereotypical teens in the midst of several distractions.
