Hays ? St. John’s Inc. of Hays and Victoria plans to consolidate two nursing homes and build a new facility in Hays.

The Hays Daily News reports that construction is scheduled to begin next month, with a projected opening of April 2012.

Wichita-based Via Christi Senior Services will own the $14 million, 80,000-square-foot facility. Chief Executive David Karlin says it will provide more private rooms and living space and create a more home-like atmosphere for residents.

Karlin says all the company’s 200 employees in Hays and Victoria will have a chance to work at the new facility.
