Lawrence woman charged with stabbing boyfriend with kitchen knife

A 21-year-old Lawrence woman was arrested in Leawood late Monday night after her boyfriend showed up at a Leavenworth hospital hours earlier with a stab wound.

Lawrence police Sgt. Matt Sarna said hospital staff called police about 8:30 p.m. Monday to tell them about the 22-year-old Lawrence man in the emergency room. He had a stab wound to his arm.

On Tuesday, Douglas County prosecutors filed an aggravated battery charge against the suspect, Amy Marie Vaught.

Sarna said the victim told detectives he was in an argument with his girlfriend at an apartment in the 1700 block of West 24th Street and she stabbed him with a kitchen knife before she left the apartment.

Police later linked the suspect, Vaught, to a residence in Leawood, and officers arrested her about 11:30 p.m.

Sarna said the victim is expected to recover from his stab wound.
