Thanksgiving Day closings in Lawrence and Douglas County

Most government offices along with public services will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving. Many will remain closed Friday as well.

Federal courts and federal offices in the General Services Administration will be closed Thursday.

City of Lawrence offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Douglas County and state offices will also be closed, along with most offices in area towns.

Most banks will be closed Thursday and will reopen Friday.

Downtown parking meters will be free Thursday and Friday, but will be running on regular hours — 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. — on Saturday.

Solid waste services in Lawrence for Thursday will be moved to Friday. Friday and Saturday’s commercial collection will be completed on a normal schedule.

The Lawrence Transit System T and T Lift buses will not be in service Thursday but will return to regular schedules on Friday.

Most area recreation centers will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed through Thursday. The East Lawrence Recreation Center, Holcom Park Recreation Center and the Community building will reopen on Friday from noon until 5 p.m., but offices will be closed. There are no classes or sports scheduled so open gym hours will be available for the entire time the centers are open.

South Park Recreation Center will remain closed on Friday. The centers will return to normal operating hours on Saturday. Any questions can be directed to Tim Laurent, facilities operations supervisor, at 785-832-7920.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed Thursday and Friday. It will reopen Saturday with normal hours of operation.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be closed Thursday and will reopen with holiday hours Friday. During the special hours lap swimming will be available from 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. and the zero depth children’s area will be open from 1 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The water slide and diving area will be open from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Normal hours will resume on Saturday.

Carl Knox Natatorium, 1901 La., will be closed from Wednesday through Sunday. It will reopen Monday.

Eagle Bend Gold Course will be closed Thursday. The Lawrence Public Library will also be closed Thursday.

Douglas County Senior Services will be closed Thursday and Friday. No meals will be served and no transportation will be provided. Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not make deliveries Thursday or Friday either.

LINK will be open and serving meals from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, and doors open earlier.

There will be no mail delivery Thursday and post offices will be closed. No special deliveries will be made. Offices will return to normal hours Friday.

The Lawrence Workforce Center, 2540 Iowa, will be closed Thursday and Friday.

UPS will not pick up or deliver packages on Thursday. Delivery of UPS air and international packages will resume Friday.

FedEx locations and drop boxes will be closed Thursday.

The Journal-World business office will be open Thursday for walk-ins and phone calls from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Journal-World will be open for normal hours Friday.

USA Today will not be published Thursday.

State law mandates that liquor stores be closed Thursday.
