Lawrence kids can catch the Santa Claus express

The Midland Railway Santa Claus Express trains will return next month, when singers will be aboard the train performing holiday music while passengers make their way to see Santa.

The trains will depart at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Dec. 4-5. Departures Dec. 4 will be from the VFW Hall on old Highway 59 on the north edge of Ottawa and will run to Norwood and return. The Dec. 5 departures will be from the Santa Fe Depot, 1515 W. High St., in Baldwin City and will run to Norwood and return.

The Baldwin Santa Fe Depot souvenir shop will be open for those wishing to get train-related souvenirs and Christmas gifts. Thomas the Tank Engine merchandise will also be available aboard the train at a special 25 percent off Santa special.

The fares will be $7 for children ages 1 through 11 and $14 for adults ages 12 and up. Children under 1 year of age ride free. The trains are enclosed but not heated, so visitors are reminded to dress accordingly.
