Topeka ? The two applicants to build a state-owned casino south of Wichita have each paid a $25 million “privilege fee” to keep their applications current.

Kansas Lottery officials announced Thursday that Peninsula Gaming and Global Gaming have paid the required fee to build and operate the casino in Sumner County.

One plan is from a subsidiary of Dubuque, Iowa-based Peninsula Gaming. The other is from a subsidiary of Ada, Okla.-based Global Gaming Solutions, which is owned by the Chickasaw Nation.

The fee from the successful applicant will be deposited into a lottery fund. The fee from the unsuccessful applicant will be refunded.

The Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board is expected to select the winning proposal at a meeting Dec. 15 in Topeka.
