From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 19, 1970:

• Representatives of the city of Lawrence and Kansas University were requesting equal time from CBS television in order to counteract the image conveyed during a recent “60 Minutes” segment about Lawrence’s role in the Kansas marijuana harvest. Don Metzler, the city’s mayor, and John Conrad, KU’s director of university relations and development, had asked the show’s producers to consider some film clips showing positive activities in the city and on campus.
• More suggestions for Haskell Indian Junior College were reported from the planning meeting taking place on campus. Among them were enlargement of Stidham Union to include a post office and a student bank, creation of an Indian cultural arts center, an upgrade of the student health clinic, improvements to parking lots, and the converting of Osceola-Keokuk Hall into a complex for married students.
• Lawrence’s Municipal Court Judge Jack Maxwell was noted as being the only judge in Douglas County who routinely wore a judicial robe during court sessions.
