Hutchinson plant produces first wind turbine part

? A Hutchison plant that builds parts for wind turbines has reached an important milestone.

Officials at Siemens Wind Power plant announced Tuesday that the plant had finished its first nacelle. That’s the part that houses the generator, transformer and gearbox for wind turbines.

Plant manager Claus Ungstrup says the production was the first nacelle made in the United States.

He says when the plant celebrates its grand opening on Dec. 3, three nacelles will be ready for shipment to a project in the state of Washington.

Ungstrup tells The Hutchinson News that the plant currently has 135 employees. It opened on Oct. 3.
