The Lawrence Accredited Music Teachers Association will present two recitals Sunday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H. The students represent the studios of Carol Cook, Mary Cornwell, Lisa Bender, Elaine de SanMiguel and Evelyn Falen.

Performing at 1:30 p.m. are: Shannon Clarke, Nathan Ma, Cecilia Paranjothi, Maggie Li, Haleigh Dahl, DingDing Ye, Samantha Dunham, Laura Willoughby, Cameron Buzhardt, Catherine VanGarssee, Jonathan Patton, William Shultz, Natalie Clarke, Thomas Di-Zerega, Jonathan Bock, Katie Price, Ava Cormaney and Savannah Price.

Performing at 3 p.m. are: Jeffrey Chen, Alana Branch, Jessica Chen, Marlee Yost-Wolff, Di Xie, Denis Gathoto, Abby Hosek, Matthew Eagle, Jared Sommers, Sam Dowell, Cal Young, Mary Beth Bronson and Morgan Manger.

Chandra Shenoy graduated with an M.D. from St. Louis University School of Medicine in May. She began her residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western/MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Shenoy is a 2002 graduate of Free State High School.

The Kansas Herpetological Society held its 37th annual meeting and awards ceremony Nov. 6-7 at the Topeka Zoo. The Center for North American Herpetology presented two awards and KHS three additional scholarships, grants and awards.

George Pisani and Stan Roth, both of Kansas Biological Survey, were award recipients. Pisani was honored the “Suzanne L. & Joseph T. Collins Award for Excellence in Kansas Herpetology” and given a commemorative plaque and a check for $1,000. Roth was honored with the “Henry S. Fitch-Dwight R. Platt Award for Excellence in Field Herpetology” for $100.

Jason Champagne, son of Ron and Adrienne Champagne of Eudora, was named an Alan Allery Undergraduate Award Winner Oct. 29 at the American Indian Health Research Conference 2010 Awards Luncheon in Grand Forks, N.D. Champagne, a 1994 graduate of Baldwin High School, is an alumni of Haskell Indian Nations University and Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Program at Brown College. He is currently a senior at the University of North Dakota double majoring in community nutrition and Indian studies.

Kansas University’s Department of Student Housing has named its 2010-11 student leaders.

The new leadership includes resident assistants and desk managers for KU’s eight residence halls, proctors and food board managers for 12 scholarship halls and top officers for the five university housing organizations.

Area leaders are: Robert Halloran, Shelton Heilman, Meron Herouy, Alexandra Hyler, Randy Ngelale, Emily Owen and Christopher Paradies, Lawrence; and Ryan Schirmer, Berryton.
