The Lawrence Community Shelter is looking for some holiday cheer. For the first time, the shelter is seeking gift donations for children and families of children in need.

The program, Adopt a Homeless Angel, has begun accepting donations of toys and clothing along with other items listed by the families.

There are currently as many as nine children at the shelter who will participate in the program, with the number changing by the week. Sherry Girty, who spearheaded the program, has done similar work around Lawrence.

“I just thought about who else was in need,” Girty said.
