Topeka ? The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has lifted the last of the blue-green algae advisories that had been issued for state waterways.

The agency says the advisory for Central Park Lake in Shawnee County was removed this week after concentrations of blue-green algae declined to acceptable levels.

KDHE issued numerous advisories and warnings this summer and fall because algae concentrations were too high at many state lakes recreational use.

The algae caused water in Lawrence to have a musty taste and odor and water utilities along the Kansas River reported similar problems throughout the summer.

Toxins from blue-green algae can cause nausea, rashes and respiratory problems and was especially dangerous for pets — particularly dogs — to drink. The algae bloom in Kansas lakes following hot, sunny days that create conditions for growth.
