Feds seize $5.5 million from plane at Salina Municipal Airport

? Federal prosecutors are seeking the civil forfeiture of more than $5.5 million in cash seized from a Cessna Citation jet at the Salina Municipal Airport.

A document filed Wednesday in federal court in Wichita says the small, chartered aircraft was refueling Oct. 13 while en route from New York to California. Its four passengers were from Canada.

An affidavit filed in the case says a search turned up 12 pieces of luggage filled with money. The plane’s occupants disclaimed ownership of the cash.

Authorities also say a drug dog detected the odor of controlled substances on the currency.

The U.S. attorney’s office says no criminal charges have been filed.
