— The Atlanta Hawks agreed Monday to a five-year, $60 million contract extension with All-Star center Al Horford. The team reached the deal with Horford just ahead of a deadline that would have opened the door for one of their stalwart players to become a restricted free agent next summer.

Wall sprains ankle

Washington — John Wall and Gilbert Arenas are both nursing right ankle injuries as the Washington Wizards prepare for their home opener.

Wall sprained his ankle in Saturday’s loss to Atlanta and was wearing a walking boot as a precaution Monday, but coach Flip Saunders said he thinks the No. 1 overall pick will play today against Philadelphia.

Arenas is still bothered by a strained tendon in his ankle and isn’t expected to play today.

Beasley, Love extended

Minneapolis — The Minnesota Timberwolves have exercised contract options for next season on forwards Michael Beasley and Kevin Love, guards Jonny Flynn and Wayne Ellington, and center Kosta Koufos.

The Wolves also let the deadline pass for offering forward Corey Brewer a contract extension beyond this season, meaning he’ll become a restricted free agent next summer.

Shaq misses practice

Waltham, Mass. — Shaquille O’Neal missed his second straight practice Monday due a knee bruises. He likely will miss today’s game in Detroit.
