Hospital praise

To the editor:

Connie Pelham’s article (“LMH caring eases end of life”) might give the impression that her husband received such good end-of-life care simply because she is a longtime LMH employee. I’ve learned that her experience is far from unique.

During my weekly volunteer stints at LMH, I visit with newly admitted patients to make sure everything is going well for them. These folks say that the nursing care they receive is wonderful, they’re treated with respect, and the food is excellent (no small feat there!). When asked if there’s anything that would make this experience better, 99 percent of the time they say “Everything is wonderful.”

I also volunteer in the Care Coordination Office, the social workers’ home base. The dedicated staff in this office gives 110 percent all the time. No matter how small a problem may seem (to me), they immediately jump in to fix it. “Patient satisfaction is our No. 1 goal” is surely their mantra.

Walking the halls each week, I see numerous hospital personnel. Although doing very serious work, they seem to be happy, carrying a positive attitude in tandem with their medical training. I always think they must be so satisfied because they are supported by an organization that values their expertise and contribution to the overall mission of providing excellent care. So kudos to the hospital administration for being the kind of boss we’d all like to have.

We in Lawrence should be thrilled that we have such an excellent spot to land should we need first rate medical care.
