Shredding event set for Saturday

The public is invited to shred and recycle old documents Saturday at Douglas County Bank’s downtown branch.

From 9 a.m. to noon, documents will be shredded in the Douglas County Bank’s parking lot, 309 W. Ninth St.

Along with the bank, Jayhawk File Express and Extreme Recycling is hosting the sixth annual Shred Day.

The shredding service is free, but families and businesses are limited to about 200 pounds of paper, which is about five normal-sized file boxes.

People can also recycle electronics, such as computers and telephones. Extreme Recycling will accept most items with power cords or circuit boards.

There will be a $10 charge for CRT monitors and a $15 charge for televisions, but all other electronics will be recycled for free.

The bank will also have information on identity theft and the first 250 participants will receive a free DNA I.D. kit.
