Free State postpones regional baseball to Friday

LHS softball also pushed back

Because of heavy rain that has pounded the area and more rain expected today, the Free State High baseball team has postponed its regional baseball tournament to Friday.

The Firebirds, seeded second at this year’s regional, will play host to No. 7 Topeka High at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Should they win that game, the Firebirds would play the winner of the game between No. 3 Washburn Rural and No. 6 Leavenworth at 7 p.m. Friday for a berth at state.

All games will be played at FSHS.

In softball news, the Lawrence High regional softball game scheduled for today has been postponed until Friday because of soggy field conditions and expectation of more rain today. Tomorrow’s game will be played at 4:15 p.m. at Washburn Rural High School.

In addition, Lawrence High’s baseball regional, which was scheduled for Wednesday, also will be played Friday. The fourth-seeded Lions will take on No. 5 Olathe Northwest at 2 p.m. in Manhattan.

A victory would put LHS in the 7 p.m. championship game, where they’d face the winner of the game between No. 1 Manhattan and No. 8 Junction City. The winner of that game also earns a trip to state.
